Ammophila leoparda (Fernald) 1934. This species occurs uncommonly in the eastern U.S. (Krombein 1979). In Michigan, it has been collected from scattered localities in the SLP.
BIOLOGY: Nothing has been reported about the habits of A. leoparda. One female was collected as she was flying close to the ground in a gravelly-sandy area with large amounts of clay. The soil was very hard and compacted (Washtenaw Co., Half Moon Lake).
COLLECTION DATES: 34 specimens, 14 June to 14 September, with most dates in late July and early August.
