This laboratory, located on the ground floor of the museum,
is a multi-user facility housing equipment used in analyzing protein
and nucleic acid data. One of the best such facilities in the
country, the laboratory contains state of the art equipment for
protein electrophoresis, restriction site analysis and PCR analysis.
A separate cytogenetics facility is located on the fourth floor
of the museum.
The Museum of Zoology maintains a field station at the Edwin
S. George Reserve for research activities of museum staff,
students and members of the Department of Biology and School of
Natural Resources. The reserve is situated 25 miles west of Ann
Arbor and occupies about 1300 acres of old field and deciduous
woodland habitats surrounded by chain link fencing. Several houses
are available to accommodate investigators as well as a small
laboratory for experimental work. Many voucher specimens from
studies at the Reserve are housed in the Insect Division.
We are currently updating our catalog of ESGR insects.
