News about this recently discovered exotic pest in Ann Arbor will be alarming to many homeowners with Ash (genus Fraxinus) trees on their property.  This beetle (Agrilus planipennis)  is newly reported from Asia, and has been found attacking Ash trees in southeastern Michigan. The  Michigan Dept. of Agriculture has quarantined the transport of Ash in 5 counties in the Detroit area to reduce the likelihood of transporting the beetle outside the currently infested area.

Please do not contact the UMMZ for information on control or identification.  The Michigan Dept. of Agriculture and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service are the agencies that you should contact.

If you have an Ash tree that is showing signs of decline, you should contact the

Emerald Ash Borer Hotline at 866-325-0023 (toll free).
