Systematics of Neohorstia

Ali Khaleel

Zachvatkin (1941) proposed the monotypic genus Neohorstia for N. mamillata, deutonymphs of which were collected from the megachilid bees now known as Archianthidium pubescens and A. laticeps from Iran and Greece respectively. This species has not been subsequently reported in the literature. We have collected new specimens from A. pubescens from Turkey, allowing a redescription of this genus and species. Interestingly, some of the deutonymphs in this collection had begun to molt to the tritonymphal instar before drying on the host specimen. This is allowing us to describe a post-deutonymphal morphology for this genus for the first time.
