The Michigan Entomological Society was formed by a group of talented amateur and professional entomologists in 1954, to "help promote the science of entomology in all its branches and by all feasible means, and to advance cooperation and good fellowship among persons interested in entomology." The Society was an outgrowth of the old Detroit Entomological Society. Since that time, we now have over 600 members and subscribers from around the world.

Most of our membership is located in the Great Lakes region. The Michigan Entomological Society (MES) attempts to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information in both amateur and professional circles, and encourages the study of insects by youth. Over the years, the Society has supported Michigan 4-H entomology programs, the Young Entomologists Society, and other programs where a need has been demonstrated, either through grants or volunteer effort.

The Michigan Entomological Society is a non-profit organization and receives its sole support from membership dues, contributions, and bequests, all of which are deductible for income tax purposes. Our board members are volunteers and they work hard to make the Society a successful organization.

We encourage you to join the MES as a way of supporting the study of Entomology in the Great Lakes Region. In 2004, we celebrated 50 years of service to the entomological community.
