Ephemeroptera (Mayflies) of Michigan Key to the Ephemeroptera of Michigan Introduction Although well surveyed in certain locations (especially by J. W. and F. A. Leonard), much work remains to adequately inventory our Michigan mayfly fauna, especially in the Upper Peninsula. The recent publication by Randolph and McCafferty (1998) is a useful step forward in documenting the general distribution of mayfly species in the Great Lakes. This work, in addition to records from Leonard’s collections housed at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, Insect Division, forms the basis for this list. There are Michigan records for at least 124 species in 42 genera, with perhaps 41 species occurring nearby. Many other records exist as synonymies; these are included under the current valid name, based on information located at the Mayfly Central web site.
