Hydrophilidae - Water Scavenger Beetles

The information contained on this list is tentative, based on few observations of museum specimens (currently being assessed) and a limited literature search (Downie and Arnett 1996, Willson 1970). Species of Sphaeridiinae, including those in the genera Cercyon, Cryptopleurum, Paraceryon, Pemelus, Phaenonotum, Sphaeridium, and Tectosternum are not aquatic, but associated with decaying plant or fungal matter, and animal dung, and are only rarely (or incidentally) collected in aquatic systems. Consult Downie and Arnett (1996) for more information.
